American AAdvantage’s “off-peak” PlanAAhead economy awards offer some of the best values in the industry: 15,000 to 20,000 miles less than the peak awards, and often a good 5,000 to 10,000 miles less than many competitors’ awards.

Now that the hazy days of summer have departed, many of the off-peak award periods have begun, or will begin soon.

Travel to the Caribbean and Mexico is discounted until Nov. 14 (25,000 miles); Central America, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela also continue their discounted period through Nov. 14, and pick up again on Jan. 16 through June 14 (30,000 miles); Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay are on sale until Nov. 30 (40,000 miles); Europe drops to 40,000 miles until May 15; and Japan drops to 50,000 miles through Apr. 30.
