The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission is considering possible legal action against Qantas in order to make more seats available to frequent flyers, according to the Melbourne Herald-Sun newspaper.
After a two-year investigation prompted by consumer complaints, the ACCC wants Qantas to provide more tickets for its members and to better publicize the program’s limitations. While Qantas declined to comment, a spokeswoman told the Herald-Sun that the number of seats available for frequent flyers rose by 29 percent in 2000-2001, in addition to a 30-percent increase the year before.
