Over the last two years we’ve seen just about everything related to miles bite the dot-com dust (except real frequent flyer programs). The latest to plunge into the deep end without a lifeguard on duty is WebMiles, the loyalty program launched with no blackout dates and no fanfare from the airlines. WebMiles ceased as a program on April 15 citing: “The events of September 11, 2001 have negatively impacted the economy and in particular, the travel industry. Consumers are traveling less and there is likewise a depressed demand for programs that offer travel rewards. For WebMiles, Inc. this has meant lost partnerships and lost revenue for the company. WebMiles has come to a point where it can no longer continue to offer its travel rewards program to consumers.”
Members of the WebMiles program that had earned some sort of an award were given just a few weeks to redeem. That leaves just S&H Greenpoints and MyPoints as survivors of any substance. Whewwwwwww!
