Drowning in a sea of red ink, ANC, parent company of both Alamo and National Car Rental, recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy — meaning that they are trying to manage their debt and remain in business.
While rumored to be a takeover target for Cendant, parent company of Avis, there’s still too many unknowns to predict what will happen in this case. We are still quite disappointed in the actions that National Car Rental took with their original Emerald Club program. The scaled-back version of their award chart was introduced with no apology. While the petition for bankruptcy acknowledges a debt of $205,000 for the Alamo ‘Cash-In’ travel agency incentive program, it doesn’t seem to acknowledge the existence of the debt that they owe members of the Emerald Club. It must have been an oversight…
