MCI is the new phone partner for British Airways Executive Club. Members can earn a 5,000-mile bonus as well as five miles for every $1 you spend talking (existing MCI customers are not eligible for enrollment bonus miles). But the British Airways offer now includes the fine print up front and warns members that “Miles earned are subject for Federal Excise Tax surcharge not to exceed $0.0013 per Mile.”

Must be a lot of members complaining to provide this fine print way up front. But hey, this isn’t about this tax, it’s about earning miles for your long distance phone calls and, as it has been a while since they parted company with AT&T, you’ve got some talking to make up for.
