In a move that will please many WorldPerks members, Northwest is continuing its mileage-discount incentives for members who redeem miles on the Northwest Web site. Through Sept. 30, members can take advantage of a 3,000-mile reduction for award travel to Europe or Asia and a 1,500-mile reduction for award travel elsewhere.

This has to be one of the best award deals around — there are no route stipulations and, if you make separate bookings, there is no reason why you can’t take advantage of the discounts for each award ticket booked. This should somewhat soften the blow that members felt when the 20,000-mile domestic award disappeared. Discounts are applied at the time of the reservation and are displayed onscreen during the booking process. More perseverance and patience will be required for booking online as it does seem that the service representatives can jet around the reservations systems with a lot more dexterity than an online user. It is definitely worth a try though.
