KLM has launched a service that allows passengers to select their seatmates after reading their social media profile. To use the service, passengers must link their Facebook or LinkedIn account to their check-in information to view other passengers’ profiles. Passengers can use the tool to find people who share similar interests and choose to sit next to someone who sounds interesting. Meet & Seat is now available on flights between all of KLM’s U.S. gateway cities (JFK, Washington, Atlanta, Chicago, Houston and Dallas) and Amsterdam.
Bottom line: The Meet & Seat feature is not to everyone’s liking but there are those who think it’s a great way to meet new people. As one commenter on Facebook posted, “Every friend you ever had was a complete stranger at some point.” No one is required to use the service and you are free to not link your social media profile if you wish to remain anonymous.
