Delta is reaching out to travelers through social media and has launched a new feature on Facebook where visitors can book a flight using the site. Facebook users can book a flight directly from facebook.com/delta via the “Book a Trip” tab at the top of the page without having to navigate to delta.com.

You can search for flights and make reservations without leaving Facebook and you can also share your travel plans with your friends and family. The Facebook “Ticket Window” is currently only functional for travel originating in the U.S. While most airlines have a Facebook presence, Delta is the first airline to introduce flight booking via the Web site.

Delta has also launched an iPhone app and customers can now use it to check-in for flights and check flight status, as well as access their SkyMiles account and use electronic boarding passes in participating cities. Members can use the app for free onboard Delta flights equipped with Internet service. Through Oct. 31, 2010, Delta will donate 100 miles to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (up to one million miles) for each member who uses the app to check-in while they are logged into their SkyMiles account.
