Amtrak has begun installation of wireless Internet service on Acela Express trains, the high-speed trains that operate along the Northeast Corridor to serve Boston, New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Washington, D.C. The WiFi service will be free initially to riders when it launches in the second quarter of 2010, but “pricing may change depending on customer response, system performance and costs.” If all goes well, Amtrak will look into introducing WiFi on other trains and Northeast Regional trains will most likely receive WiFi first.
