AirTran Airways is yet another airline to offer in-flight Internet, pledging that the service will be available on every plane in its fleet this summer. Provided by Aircell’s Gogo broadband system, the technology will permit passengers to access the Web, email, instant messaging and VPN through WiFi enabled devices and laptop computers.

The cost is the same as other airlines using the Gogo service: $9.95 for flights under three hours, or $12.95 for longer flights, plus a $7.95 option for mobile device connections on flights of any length. Most airlines have been taking their time to install onboard Internet, but CEO Bob Fornaro of AirTran Airways had this to say, “We feel that WiFi on every flight gives us a distinct competitive advantage. Our passengers will know with confidence that no matter which flight they are on, the airplane cabin will be their mobile office, social network, online mail or whatever they want it to be.”
