Marriott started offering mobile check-in last year, and the hotel group is now offering mobile checkout. As early as 4am on the day of departure, you can be notified via your smartphone that mobile checkout is available. You will be prompted to provide an email address for your bill and leave your keys in the room. You’ll then be able to bypass the checkout line on your way out.
The Marriott Mobile app for iPhone and Android devices allows guests to check-in and checkout at 326 hotels in North America and 22 international hotels, with the capability being rolled out to all 500 properties in 60 countries worldwide later this year. The process will be available in English, Chinese, French, Spanish and German and is exclusively available to Marriott Rewards members.
Marriott is also testing mobile services that allow guests to have two-way conversations with hotels via the chat feature on their smartphones to make requests to hotel staff for things like extra pillows, bath amenities, towels, valet parking and wake-up calls, among other requests. These “incubator hotels” are all located in the U.S. and include New York Marriott Downtown, Chicago Marriott Downtown, San Diego Marriott Marquis & Marina, Denver Marriott West, Boston Marriott Copley Place and others. Bottom line: To date, the Marriott Mobile app has been downloaded over 2.9 million times and more than 150,000 mobile check-ins have been completed. Guests can also be alerted when their room is ready, which is a good feature to have. The app is also now available for the iPad.
