It’s been over two years since JetBlue first announced in April of 2011 that it would be partnering with ViaSat to offer in-flight WiFi. JetBlue will launch their first WiFi enabled plane in early 2013 and basic Internet service will be free to start. They didn’t announce whether the service would be offered for free as an ongoing perk, but flyers will at least be able to test the service at no cost. JetBlue partnered with ViaSat to offer service via a Ka-band satellite, which offers faster connection speeds and more bandwidth than air-to-ground signals from cell phone towers.
