With its soft launch in late December, Milez.biz is a new website devoted to helping frequent flyers find the best deals when redeeming their miles for award flights. You simply input “from” and “to” and Milez will present a list of several frequent flyer programs and their redemption rates for economy, business and first class flights. If you prefer, you can narrow down the search by the programs you choose.
The site was developed by a Toronto web development agency and inspired by their own frustration when trying to book flights with their frequent flyer miles. Award flight information from 45 frequent flyer programs are accessed through the site and updates are published on the site to keep users informed of the latest news from Milez.
Bottom line: This is a quick way to compare redemption amounts across programs but the information you receive will not take into account all of the different factors that make one option better than another. Award prices can vary for off-season awards, routings, special awards for elite members and more.
We suggest you try entering your origin and destination without selecting your programs first to see the other programs that can get you where you’re going–these are the programs you might consider joining. Our search for flights from San Francisco (SFO) to Dar es Salaam (DAR) indicated that a frequent flyer could redeem between 50,000 and 120,000 miles for roundtrip economy classes. If you’re favored program is the one offering this flight for 120,000 miles, it might be time to look at the program offering the same basic flight for only 50,000 miles. This is a fun tool, but research what you find to make sure that the information is correct before plopping down your miles for an award ticket.
