There’s a new tool at GoMiles.com that will allow users to plug in two airports and get a list of what the cost in miles will be from various frequent flyer programs for that route. The tool is still in beta, but it’s worth taking a look. You can search by one way or roundtrip, by cabin class and by global airline alliance.
The results will show first, business, business off-peak, economy and economy off-peak award flights. Visit http://insideflyerus.wpengine.com/link/?5253 to see what the tool can do. There is a link at the bottom of the page to email feedback about what you find. You can also keep abreast of the latest information about the tool on milepoint at www.milepoint.com/link/?5256.
Bottom line: We input San Francisco (SFO) roundtrip to Colombo, Sri Lanka (CMB) and found that Delta has an award for only 60,000 miles compared to United’s 80,000 miles. Sounded great for Delta, until we checked the numbers and found that Delta is also 80,000 miles for a roundtrip coach flight. So, there is still some work to be done, but it’s a start and will come in especially handy for those who know where they want to go on an award trip and want to find the best program to get them there.
