Southwest Airlines has introduced its first app for the iPhone. Users can make reservations (both flight and car rental), access flight schedules, check in for flights or check the flight status.

You can also access your Rapid Rewards account directly from your iPhone–you can check your credit balance, current reservations as well as your flight history. Also, Southwest’s DING is built into the app so you’ll get DING’s exclusive, limited-time airfare deals as soon as they are posted.

In the past, the DING deals were only available to those who downloaded the DING desktop widget. If you would like the DING notifications, you’ll need to allow push notifications. Push technology allows a constantly-open IP connection including sounds and text alerts.

You can also quickly access a host of helpful Southwest telephone numbers through the app. Future enhancements include flight check-in through the app and “kramirez” from the Southwest Blog says, “… we have a few more ideas up our sleeves. And, don’t worry, we won’t forget about all you non-iPhone users.”
