With Continental potentially on the outs with the Delta/Northwest merger, though there is nothing that would prevent them from continuing as a partner of either Delta or SkyTeam, and in fact we’d prefer to see that happen. But Continental seems enamored with the prospect of partnering with American and British Airways. There are some aspects of the AAdvantage and OnePass programs that are already in synch, such as the requirement for a co-pay when redeeming for certain premium class awards. But given the continued dysfunction of American and British Airways in their current frequent flyer alliance (Open Skies does not mean Open Miles), it’s not clear if this potential partnership would be as beneficial to frequent flyers as the current CO/(DL/NW) is for Continental. We believe that a lot of time, money and effort would be wasted with this potential partnership.
