Virgin Atlantic has introduced the Gold Standard Carbon Offset Program where passengers will be able to offset their air travel during a Virgin Atlantic flight. And because the airline has calculated exactly how much carbon is produced for each of its flights and had this verified through CICS, a greenhouse gas verification company, passengers in Upper Class are asked to pay more than Premium economy and coach passengers because their seat and inflight entertainment monitors are significantly heavier. In addition to buying offsets onboard, passengers can buy carbon offsets for their flights on the airline’s Web site when they book their tickets, or anytime they choose at http://www.virginatlantic.com/offset
Gold Standard credits are independently validated, adhere to best practice methodology and support renewable energy or energy efficiency technologies.
