Alaska Airlines has introduced a “Change Itinerary” feature at alaskaair.com or horizonair.com. It is the first online tool in the industry that displays a matrix of 20 itinerary change options with corresponding adjustments to fares and taxes. The new tool allows customers to change travel dates as well as departure and arrival cities, even after some of the travel in the itinerary has been completed.
Of special interest to frequent flyers, Alaska Airlines MVP and MVP Gold Mileage Plan members can now search for new flights with available upgrades to first class.
To encourage customers to use this new tool, there has been a fee increase for changes made through the airlines’ reservations centers and ticket counters. The fee is now $75, up from $50. The fee for online changes will remain $50. The new change itinerary tool does not yet allow customers to change award tickets or international itineraries, but Alaska says that customers can expect this capability in the future.
