American Airlines has announced that it will be the first U.S. airline to test providing broadband connectivity onboard American transcontinental flights starting in 2008. American has teamed with AirCell, LLC to provide high-speed Internet connection, VPN access and e-mail capabilities through Wi-Fi enabled laptops and PDA devices. The technology will be available in all flight classes of the B767-200 aircraft for an undisclosed fee. If the trials are successful, the capability could be extended to the rest of American’s domestic fleet.
