Delta SkyMiles has introduced a new miles-for-merchandise service, called “Medallion Marketplace,” for its Platinum Medallion members.

All current U.S.-based Platinum Medallions may log on to http://www.delta.com/medallionmarketplace with a SkyMiles number and pin. Platinum Medallion members can redeem miles online for a variety of household and travel-related items, including electronics, home and garden items, outdoor equipment, hotel stays and gift cards.

SkyMiles has joined a growing number of programs in providing its members more options to redeem miles, at least in part to help alleviate the growing liability of unused mileage.

Frontier Airlines EarlyReturns, for example, launched a “More Store” last year, allowing its elite members to use miles to bid on select merchandise.
