As if Emirates needed to make its Skywards program more attractive, members will find award levels have been reduced — on average by about 20 percent.
For example, the number of miles needed for an economy flight from Dubai to destinations in Europe has been reduced from 50,000, miles to just 40,000. Travel from the U.K. to Australia previously ran 125,000 miles, and is now only 95,000 miles.
With the launch of Emirates new non-stop service to New York on June 1, rewards for this route are set to be fairly generous as well — an economy flight from New York to Dubai will require just 70,000 miles. Should you choose instead to pay for the flight, keep in mind that first- and business-class travelers will be offered complimentary bed and breakfast accommodations at select Ritz Carlton hotels, or free luxury car rental for a limited time.
In other news, Emirates is offering members who book first-class tickets online a bonus of 150 percent of miles flown in addition to the miles normally earned for first-class travel. Business-class online bookings will earn 125 percent extra miles, and economy-class bookings will earn 75 percent extra miles. Online booking is scheduled to launch this month on Emirates’ U.S. site.
