The fall season is typically filled with frequent flyer promotions and giveaways, and Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan is doing its best to continue this trend with its 10-Million-Mile Giveaway sweepstakes.
For this promotion, Alaska Airlines has followed the K.I.S.S. — Keep It Simple, Stupid — formula. All members have to do to qualify is go online to register, then start flying Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air between Sept. 7 and Dec. 15, 2003. Contestants will earn one daily drawing sweepstakes entry for each segment flown on a given date, or two entries per segment if the ticket was booked online at www.alaskaair.com.
For each day of the sweepstakes, one name will be drawn from the list of qualifying entries for that date, and the winner will receive 100,000 Mileage Plan miles.
So, for example, if a member should book a ticket at Alaska Airline’s Web site and fly two segments on Oct. 25, that member would earn four entries into the Oct. 25, 100,000-mile drawing.
The drawing for each of the daily winners will take place on or about Dec. 23.
And if luck isn’t exactly your strong suit, Mileage Plan has something for you too. During the same promotional dates, members can earn up to 100,000 bonus miles based on the number of segments flown (visit http://www.alaskaair.com/www2/Promo/Registration/PromoEntry.asp?pid=AS0308 for complete details).
On an interesting side note, Alaska Airlines has valued the 100,000-mile prizes at $2,500 each. This places the value of each mile at 2.5 cents, up half a cent from the previous two-cent standard most airlines applied to these awards.
While this is relatively meaningless in terms of the actual value of a mile, it’s interesting nonetheless to see that Alaska Airlines at least, believes the value of a mile is increasing.
