You may not have noticed it in your WorldPerks newsletter, but now you have no excuse. Beginning Sept. 1, WorldPerks members will no longer earn miles on car rental transactions with Avis and Budget Rent a Car. Alamo, Budget, Dollar and thrifty remain partners, at least for the time being.
No explanation was given for the schism, other than the standard marketing spin, but for those following the role of miles in car rental industry, this comes as no surprise.
After all, it was just last December when ANC, the parent company of National and Alamo, announced it was “reviewing the value” of its participation in frequent flyer programs. A decision was to be announced in the first quarter of this year, but we’re still waiting.
