American Express is going after Canadian market share like a Panzer division going after Paris.

Recently, the financial giant elbowed its way into a deal with Aeroplan, with the promise of a mileage-earning card in what had been an exclusive relationship between Air Canada and CIBC.

And while American Express has had a strong presence in Canada for a while, its promotions never quite measured up to the aggressive push south of the border.

Until now.

Through Aug. 31, Membership Rewards members in Canada who transfer Membership Rewards points into Delta SkyMiles will receive a 34-percent bonus.

The standard ratio for points transfers is 1,000 Membership Rewards points to 750 SkyMiles. With the bonus, every 1,000 points transferred becomes 1,005 SkyMiles.
