FlightFund members who borrow from Nationwide Advantage Mortgage Company will receive 1,000 miles per $10,000 in principal amount borrowed … Spirit Airlines, the nation’s largest privately-held carrier, is reportedly in the planning stages for its own frequent flyer program. “It’s under intense study, but there’s nothing to report yet,” said Laura Bennett, a spokesperson for the airline. “They really want it to be something different right out of the box.” Asked about a time frame, Bennett said nothing was certain, but that the company would like it to be unveiled within the year … The Antigua Sun is reporting that LIAT’s CEO, Gary Cullen, says there is a strong possibility of a merger between LIAT, BWIA and Air Jamaica. Cullen told the media, “Already there have been two meetings involving the three CEOs and our chairman. The majority of the government’s shareholders in LIAT have also expressed a desire that a merger with BWIA or a very close co-operation could very well be the solution to both BWIA’s economic difficulties and LIAT” … Bruce Nobles, president of Air Jamaica, is reportedly stepping down to spend more time with his family, according to The Associated Press. Nobles had served in the position for less than a year … A potential hostile bid for Six Continents Hotels has the owner’s association up in arms. The association recently stated that the offer will likely have a negative impact upon the operation and value of their hotels. “From what we read and hear, the transaction as contemplated could result in the company being busted into pieces … brand by brand … and likely destroying one of the world’s most established and best known hotel brands — Holiday Inn,” said Jay Fishman, Chairman of the Board of Directors. Fishman said that a break-up of the hotel group could destroy the synergies of the Priority Club Rewards program … The founder of Holiday Inn, Kemmons Wilson, passed away on Feb. 12 at his home in Memphis, Tenn., at the age of 90. Wilson started the brand after a family vacation left him discouraged over the lack of family and value-oriented lodging. From its start in 1952, the brand expanded along the U.S. interstate highway system across the country … American Airlines and SN Brussels Airlines will begin new codeshare service this summer. American will place its AA code on SN Brussels flights from Brussels to destinations across Europe and Africa. SN Brussels will place its code on American’s daily Brussels-Chicago route and a number of connecting U.S. domestic flights beyond Chicago that are operated by American.
