A couple of years ago, Starwood Hotels announced element, an extended stay hotel inspired by Westin Hotels & Resorts. The first element hotel will open in Lexington, Mass. on Sept. 1, 2008 and SPG members can redeem 7,000 points for an award night at this category three hotel. The element hotel incorporates eco-friendly materials such as low VOC paints and carpets made from recycled materials and features a full in-room kitchen, healthy food choices and a fully equipped fitness center. Other room features include an oversized desk area with power and data connections, a 32-inch LCD TV with a plug and play docking station, a signature Westin Heavenly Bed and a custom water-saving showerhead. The element Irving is scheduled to open in Texas on Nov. 1, 2008, and element Las Vegas Summerlin will open on Dec. 15, 2008.
