Hawaii’s longest-lived frequent flyer program, AlohaPass, is being revamped for the first time in 20 years. Changes include a sweeping re-tooling of the AlohaPass elite-level program, as well as Internet enhancements and an added option to buy miles.

The previous elite-level tiers of Executive Club and Ali’i are being scrapped in favor of an all-encompassing, three-tiered Ali’i Loyalty Rewards program.

Under the new program, members who fly at least 25 flight segments or earn 20,000 miles in a calendar year qualify for the Ali’i Silver level. AlohaPass members who fly 50 segments or earn 35,000 miles in a calendar year will become Ali’i Gold level members. And members who fly at least 70 flight segments or earn 50,000 miles in a calendar year will qualify for Ali’i Diamond.

Silver members will receive 25-percent bonus miles on every qualifying trip purchased and flown, Gold members 50 percent and Diamond members 100 percent. Only those miles earned by flying on Aloha Airlines can be applied as status toward the next level of membership.

With the advent of the new program, the current Executive Club will cease to exist. AlohaPass members who did not fly a minimum of 25 segments or earn 20,000 miles in 2003 can buy Silver-level membership for 2004 for $120. In the future, status in Silver and other tiers will only be earned through miles purchased and flown.

Some of the benefits available include:

Ali’i Silver — priority reservations access line, priority check-in and boarding for inter-island and transpacific flights, priority wait-list status on revenue tickets, an option to redeem double miles for travel any time, and Ali’i club lounge access in 2004.

Ali’i Gold — All Silver-level benefits, along with upgrades to First Class on inter-island flights a day prior to travel if First-Class seats are available.

Ali’i Diamond — All Gold-level benefits, along with guaranteed reservations on inter-island Coach-Class travel when booked at least 48 hours in advance, and upgrades to First Class 48 hours in advance of inter-island travel if First-Class seating is available.

In addition, all Ali’i Club members get double miles on First-Class tickets.

On the Web, AlohaPass has enhanced its presence by offering members-only low fares on inter-island travel. And members will soon be able to go online to check their account information, including up-to-date personal information such as available miles, flight activity and redemptions.

Finally, AlohaPass has introduced a mileage purchase option, allowing members to top-off their mileage account balances to reach award levels. Miles can be purchased in blocks of 1,000 miles at 2.5 cents per mile.
