Continental OnePass has announced that through the end of the year, when you travel on the same Continental flight as your pet, you can earn additional miles. Just fly your pet on Continental via PetSafe and you’ll boost your OnePass account at the rate of one mile for every dollar spent toward shipping. Plus, fly with your pet before July 14, 2003 and earn double OnePass miles for your pet. Continental’s PetSafe product assures you of dedicated 24-hour Animal Desk and tracking service, confirmed booking prior to departure and constant monitoring of weather conditions.

If your trip takes you across the pond, you might also consider Virgin Atlantic. Sir Richard Branson’s airline will be the first scheduled airline to carry cats and dogs from the U.S. into London Heathrow under the British government’s new Pet Travel Scheme (PETS).

The scheme, which only applies to cats and dogs, will commence mid May as a trial service between Los Angeles and London. PETS is expected to extend to all U.S. routes after a three-month period. And, beginning January 2004, the scheme will be open to all (PETS) territories that Virgin operates (U.S., Japan, Antigua and Barbados).

The new scheme allows cats and dogs to enter or re-enter the UK without quarantine in the UK as long as they meet certain criteria.

Virgin has announced that it will be introducing a special “Pet Miles” section of the airline’s flying club to reward frequent flying animals.
