Well-read FlyerTalkers know that the Starwood Preferred Guest forum is one of the most active out there. Changes to the program rarely sneak by unnoticed, and Preferred Guests members are quick to weigh in on perceived problems (largely because they like the program so much).
Recently, Starwood re-classified some hotels in its six-tiered award system, effectively raising the points needed for a free stay at the very top levels. As you can imagine, the nasty stuff hit the proverbial whirling air device.
Starwood noticed, and offered this olive branch to those affected by the changes. Right now, members who book a category five or six award by Feb. 28 and travel before June 30 will receive a 3,000 point credit per night. The credit will be made automatically once your award stay has been completed and will show up in your account seven days after your departure date.
(A tip of the hat is due to William Sanders, a dedicated and helpful “lurker” from Starwood, whose attention and quick responses to FlyerTalkers’ concerns is simply unrivaled. Our correspondence with members (even those with complaints) almost always praises William’s exceptional service).
