United Airlines has announced that children between the ages of 5 and 11 who are not accompanied by an adult are now only able to fly on nonstop United and United Express flights. Unaccompanied minors will not be able to fly on routes that include a stop at a connecting city. In addition to being prohibited from flying on an itinerary that includes a connection, parents will still need to pay United’s unaccompanied minor fee, which is $150 each way.

Bottom line: Redeeming miles for an unaccompanied minor on United Airlines is now more difficult. When searching for award seats, be sure to click the “Nonstop Flights Only” and “United Airlines Flights Only” boxes to view eligible flights.
