While the merger between American Airlines and US Airways is official, both airlines will continue to operate independently although you will begin to see changes in the upcoming months. Reciprocal mileage earning and redeeming on either American Airlines or US Airways was introduced on Jan. 7, 2014, along with reciprocal lounge access and limited elite recognition, such as priority check-in, security and boarding; complimentary checked bag benefits and complimentary access to premium seats. Reciprocal complimentary upgrades have not yet been introduced. Another key date is March 31, 2014, the date US Airways will join the oneworld alliance. US Airways Dividend Miles members will be able to redeem miles on Star Alliance carriers through March 30, 2014.
