VOILA Hotel Rewards has partnered with Kiva and members can now redeem points for a loan through the nonprofit organization that helps to alleviate poverty through microlending.
VOILA Hotel Rewards members can redeem 10,000 points for a $25 contribution to Kiva. Note that the $25 is a loan, not a donation, which means that you will get your money back after the borrower repays the loan, a process that generally takes less than a year. After being repaid, you can choose to reinvest the loan or have it transferred to your PayPal account.
In other partner news, VOILA Hotel Rewards has added Austria’s K+K Hotel Group as a partner, allowing VOILA members to earn and redeem points for hotels in London, Paris, Vienna, Prague, Budapest, Bucharest, Salzburg and Munich.
Bottom line: We applaud VOILA Hotel Rewards on partnering with Kiva and allowing members to redeem points for the microlending organization, but the exchange rate is on the low side. Members redeeming for a hotel stay can redeem 10,000 points for any room that is $75 to $99. Redeem 10,000 points for a contribution to Kiva and you’ll only be funding a $25 loan.
