Air Canada has decided to match the checked baggage fee policies of U.S. carriers by adding a fee to check a bag between the U.S. and Canada. Effective Oct. 11, 2011, Air Canada will start charging coach passengers $25 CAD to check a first bag on flights between Canada and the United States. The cost to check a second bag is $35 CAD. Checking two bags one way will now cost $60 CAD total. The new baggage fees will apply to tickets issued from Sept. 7 for travel on or after Oct. 11, 2011. For flights within Canada, passengers can continue to check one bag for free and pay $20 CAD to check a second bag. Bag fees are waived for elite members and Air Canada Super Elite, Elite and Star Alliance Gold members receive three free checked bags and Air Canada Prestige and Star Alliance Silver members receive two free checked bags.
