JAL Mileage Bank members living in the Americas can redeem miles for upgrade awards at a 50 percent discount or more. Members flying between Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Vancouver or Mexico City and Japan through Sept. 30, 2009 can redeem 20,000 miles for a roundtrip upgrade award (normally 50,000 miles) or 10,000 miles one way.

Upgrade awards between Honolulu or Kona and Japan are reduced from 40,000 miles roundtrip to 20,000 miles roundtrip and 10,000 miles one way. Eligible booking classes on Japan Airlines flights include coach class Y, W, B, H or K; flights on codeshares operated by other airlines are not eligible.
