Through May 31, OnePass members can once again transfer miles to any other OnePass account for a service charge of $5 per 500 miles. Members can transfer miles to only one account and can receive miles from no more than five accounts.

There’s no limit to the amount of miles that can be transferred to an eligible account and transfers must be made in blocks of 500 miles, with a minimum of 2,500 miles required.

To transfer miles, call (800) 554-5522 and provide your OnePass account number and PIN, along with the account number to which you are transferring miles.

WorldPerks members are also being given the option to top off a friend or family member’s WorldPerks account by transferring miles. Through Dec. 31, miles can be transferred in increments of 1,000 miles, with a minimum transfer of 5,000 miles, to up to three people. Miles can be transferred at a cost of $0.01 per mile plus a $25 processing fee, and the maximum number of miles a member can receive is 10,000. A maximum of 50,000 miles can be transferred per year. A quick analysis of the two offers shows that, at least on the surface, OnePass members are the winners here. For example, a transfer of 5,000 OnePass miles will cost $50, while a similar transfer will cost WorldPerks members $75. In addition, OnePass’ minimum transfer is 2,500 miles, while WorldPerks requires a minimum of 5,000 miles, somewhat limiting the flexibility. Also, OnePass allows an unlimited amount of miles to be transferred — WorldPerks tops out at 50,000.

Regardless of the relative values offered, we applaud both programs for offering the transfer option — it can be a tremendous value for families or groups of friends planning to spend vacation time together. We wonder, though, why transfer promotions can’t just be a permanent part of the program — particularly as other programs, like British Airways Executive Club, regularly allow pooling of miles among family members.
