InterContinental Hotels Group will be testing a new way for guests to unlock the door to their hotel room that won’t require any type of room key card. The Holiday Inn Chicago O’Hare Rosemont and the Holiday Inn Express Houston Downtown Convention Center will be trying out a new technology that will allow guests to bypass the front desk entirely and enter their rooms using their smartphone. Guests participating in the new system will need to register on a special Web site, download an OpenWays app and hold up the confirmation email they receive from the hotel to a sensor on the door. The technology will work with iPhone, Blackberry and Android phones. If the test run is successful, IHG will begin offering the keyless entry at more hotels.
