In the July issue of InsideFlyer, we reported on a new fee that American AAdvantage said it would start charging frequent flyers. The charge was $5 to book awards online. Since that time, the fee simply disappeared. It seems the powers that be decided to discontinue the fee without letting members know. It’s as if it never existed.
We asked our contact at AAdvantage why the fee was discontinued, and this is the response we received, “The discontinuation of the fee reflects American’s focus on providing the greatest possible value to AAdvantage members, including a convenient award booking process on AA.com.” Even though the fee was only $5, we’re sure that AAdvantage members are happy about the decision.
