Members of ThankYou Citi Rewards can redeem Citibank ThankYou points for airfare where the value of points is set at 1.33 cents per point. For example, if you wanted to redeem for a $250 flight from New York City to Detroit, it would cost 18,800 points.
Now, Citibank ThankYou points can be transferred to British Airways Avios points and Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer miles. You could transfer 9,000 ThankYou points into 9,000 Avios points for a roundtrip coach flight from New York to Detroit for half as many points. Credit cards offering Citibank ThankYou points include the Citi ThankYou Preferred Card (no annual fee), Citi Forward Card (no annual fee), Citi ThankYou Premier Card ($125 annual fee, waived the first year), Citi ThankYou Prestige Card ($500 annual fee) and Citi ThankYou Card (no annual fee).
Bottom line: For short-haul nonstop domestic flights within the U.S., you can get more value from your ThankYou points by transferring points into Avios. Citibank hasn’t officially released an announcement on the new transfer option, but members report being able to log into their account and transfer points into miles with British Airways and Singapore Airlines.
