Spanair is not the only airline to cease operations recently. As we prepared this magazine to go to press, news hit that Malev Hungarian has shut down due to a critical cash drain. The state-owned company said, “cash outflow has accelerated to such an extent that the airline’s situation is untenable,” the Financial Times reported. Malev’s Duna Club has also been terminated and miles can no longer be redeemed.
