As of last month, EL AL reduced the fuel surcharge on award tickets between 30 and 50 percent. Also, members can elect to pay part of the fuel surcharge with their Matmid points according to award zone. For example, for flights to Los Angeles, you can redeem 200 points for $100 off the fuel surcharge.

In other news, Matmid members can earn 20 percent bonus miles when you purchase your flights through the EL AL Web site. Valid for reservations until March 31, 2009.
