Zagat recently released the names of top-rated domestic and international airlines and airports, based on a survey of 9,950 frequent flyers and travel professionals. Airlines were ranked on premium and coach class service on both domestic and international flights.
In the survey, Continental Airlines was ranked the best large domestic airline in premium class and JetBlue rose to the top for coach class. Among mid-sized domestic airlines, Virgin America took top honors in premium class and Midwest Airlines was voted best for those who travel in coach. Southwest Airlines was the winner of the best frequent flyer program and best domestic value. Singapore Airlines received highest accolades for a large, international airline in coach and premium class, a distinction it has maintained for the 20th year in a row. Emirates, Cathay Pacific, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Air New Zealand placed in the top three spots in international rankings.
When asked about how they use their frequent flyer miles, 65 percent of those surveyed said they redeem their miles for free flights, 25 percent said they use them for upgrades and 10 percent said they do not use them at all.
