The latest news from India is that you can expect Jet Airways and Kingfisher Airlines to form a close alliance, but it stops short of a full merger and won’t be anytime soon. Both carriers have to respect ongoing contracts before the deal can be complete, perhaps sometime this spring. It has been reported that after ground handling and fuel purchase initiatives, the alliance will look at route rationalization, the frequent flyer programs and joint catering. As it stands now, the carriers are expected to retain their separate identities.
