SAS EuroBonus is making it more convenient for members to request upgrade awards. As of Jan. 1, 2007, members will no longer need a pre-ordered certificate to redeem an upgrade. They can now request an upgrade at the gate and can also upgrade a flying companion on the same flight. Upgrade awards between Scandinavia and Europe are 10,000 points one-way; to and from Asia and the U.S. coach to Economy Extra is 10,000 points, Economy Extra to business is 20,000 points and coach to business is 30,000 points. Any existing upgrade certificates are valid one year from the date of issue and SAS suggests that if you want to redeem for an upgrade, it would be wise to arrive early at the gate and let the gate attendants know of your intentions to spend your points for an upgrade.
