Carbon Offset

Carbon Offset

Following the lead of other airlines, Qantas and its low-cost carrier, Jetstar, have introduced a carbon offset program. To officially kick off the program, the airlines paid for all carbon emissions for every international and domestic flight on the launch date.

Customers flying the airlines have an option to contribute to the carbon offset program where funds will be directed to one of several Australian Greenhouse Office (AGO) Approved “Greenhouse Friendly” abatement projects. For example, a Qantas flight between Melbourne and Los Angeles can be offset via Qantas’ Web site for AUD 17.95.

Lufthansa and SWISS customers can choose the amount they would like to give to climate protection projects through the myclimate program, a Swiss non-profit foundation providing carbon offset measures to combat climate change.
