There is a lot to like about Hilton Honors, but the marketing of their latest promotion is a bit embarassing to be honest…

Between now and July 29th, 2021, you can buy Hilton points with a 100% bonus.

What’s Wrong?

Well… it’s simply not credible to believe that Hilton Honors is only willing to sell a limited number of points (280 million) or that this promotion won’t return in an identical format within a week or two.  After all, the most recent “buy points with a 100% bonus” promotion ended on July 8th, 2021. And for as long as I can remember, this 100% bonus promotion has never gone away for more than a couple of weeks, before returning yet again.

So… “Hurry! Limited Availability” is just a cheap marketing stunt. I’m sure you could do better, Hilton Honors…

What’s The Deal?

Hilton’s regular price is 1 US cent per point. (which you should NEVER consider)

With the 100% bonus, that price halves to 0.5 cents per point.

Unlike prior versions of this promotion, however, you can only buy 20,000, 40,000 or 80,000 points at a time. If you’ve already reached your 80,000 annual cap, you are still allowed to purchase an additional 80,000 points (with 80k bonus)

Should I Buy?

You might want to re-read my recent post explaining when to pay a cash rate and when to redeem points.

Due to the lucrative triple point promotion that is running until early September 2021, you are going to find it rather hard to find a reward stay that beats simply paying the cash rate (and earning thousands of bonus points). This makes it even less likely that you would want to buy points today for an immediate redemption.
