Southwest Onboard WiFi for $5

Southwest Onboard WiFi for $5

The latest move from the airline that lets you check a bag for free is cheap onboard WiFi. Southwest Airline’s WiFI HOTSPOT was recently announced with a flat rate of $5 per flight for any device or flight length. Southwest has teamed up with satellite-based Row 44 to offer the onboard WiFi. Currently there are 32 WiFi-enabled planes and by year end, 60 planes will be a WiFi HOTSPOT. Customers will receive an email prior to their flight informing them that they will be on a WiFi-enabled flight and a WiFi HOTSPOT placard will be placed onboard the plane. When opening the WiFi HOTSPOT browser, customers will be taken to a home page that features free content such as a flight tracker, games, shopping on SkyMall and Home Shopping Network and access to www.southwest.com. Bottom line: For a flat and easy five bucks customers of Southwest can access WiFi–this is the least expensive option of any of the airlines currently offering WiFi on flights.
