Middle East: Gulf Air Remodels Its Program

Gulf Air has launched a new-look frequent flyer program to replace the old “Falcon” program as part of its three-year strategic recovery program.

While its name — Gulf Air Frequent Flyer program — is decidedly less romantic than its predecessor, many of the benefits have actually been enhanced.

For starters, the period during which members can earn and redeem miles has been increased from three to 10 years. However, most of the changes have been designed to simplify the earning and redemption of miles both with Gulf Air and its partners.

Booking periods have been shortened, and mileage-based upgrades can now be confirmed prior to travel.

Full First-class fares still earn triple miles, full Business-class fares double miles, and full Economy-class fares earn one mile per mile flown. Discounted fares will still earn miles, with discount First- and Business-class fares earning 70 percent of the full-fare rates and discount Economy-class fares earning at varying percentages depending on the level of discount.

Members will continue to receive excess baggage, priority check-in, priority baggage handling, priority waitlists, and lounge access depending on their membership level.
