Grand Hyatt Kauai Review

Grand Hyatt Kauai

As the only Hyatt hotel on, the Grand Hyatt Kauai is your only choice if you want to stay in a Hyatt hotel or use Hyatt points. Thankfully, you won’t regret your choice. Because the Grand Hyatt Kauai is worth the price.

My family and I spent our summer vacation here two years ago.

Grand Hyatt Kauai

The Grand Hyatt Kauai is an easy 25 minute drive from the airport.

Check-in was quick and efficient. There was a separate line for Platinum and Diamond guests. That host was busy so I was checked in by a hostess from the regular registration desk. There was no acknowledgement of being a Diamond member, but she did tell me the location of the Hyatt Regency Club.

We didn’t use a Hyatt Diamond Suite and only redeem points for this trip. While a Suite would have given us a little more breathing room, the boys would have to share a sofa bed. Instead they shared a Queen Grand Hyatt bed.

Despite many room types showing as available online and asking about paying for an upgrade, I was told nothing was available. We were given a standard room that overlooked the parking lot.

As mentioned before, I’m a big fan of the Hyatt Grand Beds. They are some of the most comfortable beds. I’ll even go as far as saying they rival the Westin Heavenly beds.

An iHome stereo with a docking station and phone are on the nightstand that separates the two beds.

On top of the dresser there was a 37″ flat screen TV. With two teenage boys, the TV was on a lot.

Grand Hyatt Kauai bathroom

The bathroom is one large room with a separate door for the toilet. The toilet has a Toto washlet. We love these and have them in a couple of our bathrooms at home. But it would have been nice to have completely separate areas so that families could shower and get ready at the same time.

The shower/tub combination had two shower heads: a rain shower head and a hand held. Because both shower heads were fixed, you couldn’t adjust the water flow. But water pressure was good and the temperate never varied.

Sitting Area

Because this is a vacation destination, standard rooms don’t include a desk. Instead you get a table for two.

The closet was the standard double closet with an iron and ironing board. The safe is in the mini cabinet that held the refrigerator. There was a standard one cup coffee maker on top of the mini cabinet.

You could adjust the room temperature but it was finicky.

Elite Status Recognition & Benefits

If you’re a Hyatt Diamond, you get to choose between points or amenity, and you get access to the Hyatt Regency Club Lounge. The Hyatt Regency Club Lounge includes breakfast in the morning, snacks in the afternoon, canapes and dessert in the evening.

While there’s not as much food as a Regency Club in Asia, there’s more than enough for breakfast and a light dinner.

Room upgrades are given when space is available…supposedly.

Grand Hyatt Kauai pool

The Grand Hyatt Kauai is perfect for water lovers. Not only is it located on a beach, there’s a salt water lagoon and a freshwater pool. There’s even an adult only pool. However, I didn’t see that enforced.

With several restaurants, you can spend your whole vacation at the Grand Hyatt Kauai without leaving. There’s live entertainment each night at the Seaview Terrace, including a hula show. But if you sit towards the front, you’ll get picked to be in the show.

The spa and fitness center are huge. The Anara Spa is the largest spa on Kauai. The gym is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. And they offer fitness classes. So you could get an extra workout in before you head out for the day.

Cost & Summary

In the height of summer, the cash rate was over $500 a night.  The rate was expensive, about $250 a night. We decided not to do a Points + Cash rate because for the same cash price of $150 a night we could have rented a 2 bedroom house. Because we’d rather travel for as little money as possible, we used all points. As a Category 6  hotel, you’ll pay 25,000 points for a free night.

The beachfront location is perfect. And with all the restaurants and activities at the Grand Hyatt Kauai, you never have to leave. I plan on staying here again.

A beachfront hotel that is a destination in itself. Worth using your Hyatt points but very expensive if you're paying cash.
