Starwood Preferred Guest members can earn up to triple points with SPG’s Better by the Night promotion. Register and earn double points on all eligible charges during stays of two consecutive nights and triple points for stays of three consecutive nights or longer through April 8, 2012. Registration at http://www.spg.com/bythenight is required by March 15, 2012. With this promotion, regular SPG members will earn four points per dollar spent on two-night stays and six points per dollar spent on three-night or longer stays. Elite members earn one additional point on top of that and pay with your SPG AMEX to earn an additional two points per dollar. Elite members paying with their SPG AMEX on stays of three nights or longer will earn nine points per dollar spent.

Over 75 hotels in North and Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East are participating in the promotion. Hotels in Asia Pacific are excluded and an additional 144 hotels are not participating.

Bottom line: Members must stay a minimum of two nights to earn bonus points with the Better by the Night promotion. One-night stays do not qualify for any bonus points. Also be sure to check out the list of hotels that aren’t participating before making reservations. There are 50 hotels in the U.S. that aren’t eligible to earn bonus points with this promotion. Eligible charges include hotel rate, food and beverages (excluding alcohol where prohibited by law) and in-room movies so you will earn the bonus on all of these charges.
