Credit Card Use

Capital One recently conducted a survey about how consumers accumulate and redeem credit card awards. About a third of consumers used their credit card points to redeem for summer travel last year, while more than 40 percent are using their credit card points for travel this summer, perhaps in response to the rising fuel costs. The most popular redemption options this summer are hotels (55 percent), air travel (48 percent) and gasoline (42 percent). For the three months before the survey, 43 percent of respondents redeemed awards, but only 24 percent said that they are completely satisfied with their current program. Surprisingly, nearly 60 percent are unsure as to whether they would be charged foreign transaction fees when using their card in foreign countries. The survey was conducted among U.S. adults (18+) who indicated that they currently have a rewards credit card.
